Peaks
On October the 6th, myself and a group of medics from the LMSS attempted the national 3 peaks challenge. This
involved climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in a 24 hour period (the 3 biggest mountains in Wales,
England and Scotland)! We undertook this grueling challenge in aid of Claire House Children Hospice.
Raising over
£6400 between 21 walkers, we were in the top 5% of just giving fundraisers for October!
The whole challenge was no easy task (obviously). It started with a nice 7 hour journey straight from hospital to
our accommodation by Ben Nevis. At 7am the next morning we set off, climbing the 4,411 feet of Ben Nevis. It
was literally about -8 at the top of Ben Nevis but never the less we battled on. A
After a quick 6 hour drive to Scafell Pike, the tiredness started to set in for our night climb. Charlotte Nuttall began
imagining a MacBook Pro on top Scafell and Charlie- flat head - Hextall began self-prescribing an ibuprofen
overdose for his knees.
However, with a long list of gossip, swearing and weird conversations we made it up and down Scafell and on our
way to Snowdon. After getting a bit lost on the way to Snowdon, we finally got there and powered through it. The
fastest group for the overall time got in in just under 22hours and 30mins (10 hours of it as the driving time).
Overall everyone had a brilliant time and I think the lack of sleep was worth it for the money we raised for Claire
House. Finally we’d just like to say a big thanks to our drivers Tom and Kevin who gave up their weekend to drive
us up and down the UK. To our mountain leaders, we couldn’t have done it with out you guys! And also a huge
thank you to everyone who donated. Your donations continue to make us one of the largest contributors to Claire
House over the past 3 years!
From Aran Rees, Charlie Hextall, Oscar Edginton and the whole of the 3 peaks
team!!
