REVIEW

W alking into the Devonshire House Hotel on Friday 4th November 2016, having been warmly greeted by an entourage of semi-naked men and a cocktail inhand, I could tell already that this was going to be a night to remember.

Tell me more, I hear you say …
After a beautiful reception with white roses to be painted red and candy galore, we were accompanied to the dining room to continue the evening. The tables were
“ a beautiful, extravagent night with surprises at every turn” stunning, with hand-written place cards, an Alice-in- Wonderland hair bow for everyone and centrepieces with Wonderland paraphernalia to admire. A professional photographer circled the tables to help us capture the memories in a picture. Three courses later washed down with plenty of wine, raffle tickets were sold for charity by the very same scantilyclad gentlemen who had welcomed us at the start of the night.( If ever there was a way to sell raffle tickets to a room full of tipsy ladies, having cute butts and six-packs doing the selling is likely to help!)
For the final part of the night, the DJ blasted tune after tune whilst we waited for our“ entertainment” to arrive. Getting impatient, a few girls decided to give us an impromptu warm-up act! Bryony gave a lovely speech and thanked the girls who had helped her organise the evening, before our butlers gave out the raffle prizes. FINALLY, the guest of honour arrived … But I’ ll leave that review for another time( you’ ll just have to buy a ticket to next year’ s charity dinner to find out!) Feeling a bit pink in the cheeks from all the wine and our“ special” performance, we danced the night away. As the clock struck twelve we were joined by more guests from the Annual Bar Crawl who helped us bring the evening to a lively close, only after several more hours of dancing, of course!
So to sum up the evening, Charity Dinner 2016 was a beautiful, extravagant night with surprises at every turn. I have been attending the dinner for four years now, and it is always a truly spectacular event which gets better and better every year. To make it all the more worth it, all of the proceeds go to the mental health charity Mind, who do such amazing work for those who really need it. Congratulations Bryony, and good luck to the person who has to follow in your footsteps next year! I can’ t wait!
