Medical Lab Diagnostics
Behind Every Diagnosis there is a Life
I
n current diagnostic laboratories,
molecular tests are increasingly integrated into standard practice for identifying and managing disease, predicting the
risk of developing disease or recurrence,
and informing decisions that guide lifestyle choices and behaviour. These tests
have become indispensable tools, both
in the practice of modern medicine and
the ongoing quest to positively impact
patient outcomes. The use of molecularbased assays will only continue to grow
in number and importance.
Building on an outstanding history
of successful innovations and expertise
in real-time PCR, Life Technologies
have developed the QuantStudio™ Dx
Real-Time PCR Instrument, designed
to address the evolving needs of the
clinical laboratory.
specify user access to various software
functions, record all actions completed
by users and sign data electronically. In
addition, the onboard software for this
instrument also assists with compliance.
Flexibility as is needed
In test development mode, the
Dx enables the creation of new assays
in 96- or 384-well plates and qPCR
microfluidic card formats. ⚛
Performance to be trusted
The QuantStudio Dx’s proven performance, security and reliability combined with the outstanding sensitivity
and specificity of real-time PCR helps
to deliver the right answers that result
in better outcomes.

esigned for formulation, research
and development applications, the
new pilot-scale freeze dryer incorporates improvements in its control system
architecture, management software,

develop recipes in pharmaceutical
freeze-drying processes. This new
instrument, which offers the flexibility,
performance and a small footprint,
incorporates developments related to
process control, including a PLC-based
control system and improvements to
control and programme capabilities,
management software and interface
features. It is one of the most efficient
and convenient pilot units on the
market. Lyobeta bridges the gap in the
market that in the past was filled with
large laboratory equipment.
The new series also offers a more
user-friendly interface, wider colour
touchscreen LCD, improved PLC
control and programming capabilities.
It also has a more extensive
range of interfaces to external
devices for monitoring and
archiv ing purposes. With
the improved SCADA-based
management software, new
options such as control of the
process by means of weight
variation of the product are
available. It also has additional temperature sensors
and a simplified installation
procedure. The Lyobeta is
produced in batches as a series
product, but designed with
numerous options to configure the product to customer
requirements. ⚛
Streamlining Quality Control
S
treamlining is the business buzz
word of the moment and the clinical
diagnostic industry is not immune. As
many companies face a tighter budget
and increasing pressures to deliver
accurate results quicker and against
a backdrop of increasingly stringent
quality control (QC), the search is on
for products that will meet these targets.
The market is also seeing an increase
in products to help laboratories streamline test results. QC providers, such
as Randox, have invested significant
resources in developing multi-analyte
quality controls to help laboratories cut
down on the number of single controls.
It is now possible to produce highly
accurate test results using ten or less
controls. By switching to consolidated
controls laboratories can now carry
out highly accurate QC using just one
product.
Randox’s Immunoassay Premium
Plus control contains some 52 analytes,
including fertility and thyroid hormones, tumour and vitamins. It is also
manufactured from 100% human serum
and with open vial stability for seven
days laboratories.
Laboratories can also combine the
benefits of consolidated controls with a
web-based interlaboratory data management system, which will aid in improving analytical performance and enabling
them to identify trends or system errors.
When used in conjunction with consolidated controls, laboratories have a
powerful QC streamlining solution. ⚛
