SA Scientists Find that ‘Gene-Kissing’ Impacts Gene

A scientists from CSIR and Wits
University have made a groundbreaking discovery in the area of gene
regulation. These scientists are the first
people to show that when genes interact
in 3D, or engage in so-called ‘gene
kissing’, it impacts greatly on how genes
are switched on inside the cell. Their
research was published in the prestigious
journal Cell on 24 October this year.
During gene regulation, portions
of different chromosomes come into
contact with one another and this
occurrence is known as ‘gene kissing’.
Although this has been shown in a
number of research papers, the question
that still remains is whether ‘gene kissing’
