Team owner Martin Halsall has already starting preparations for 2017. He said, “We have certainly taken a great deal of positives from this season but it has not been without its challenges. Challenges that I can only say have been helped through our association with Suzuki. Suzuki unveiled its new machine at Eicma in November 2015 and the intention was to make that bike available to Halsall Racing sooner rather than later. The truth is that the delivery date to the team has been continuously delayed throughout the year, despite repeated promises from Suzuki, and that is a position which is far from acceptable in my opinion. Such delays in providing the new bike have only been exacerbated further by the 2017 contractual restrictions enforced upon the team through the manufacturers’ own stipulations to purchase factory race parts and components. As part of the agreement with Suzuki, we must use the specified parts stipulated by the manufacturer, which is to be expected. However, we would not consider that the costs associated with these provisions should carry such a heavy investment from the team. Funds must be controlled and that is a process we manage very carefully. With Suzuki these costs are exorbitant and it’s a position that can only be sustained for so long, before it becomes untenable. As a businessman, I will always assess the options that are best for the team and the riders. If the support structure from a manufacturer does not embrace our aspirations or simply remains uncompetitive commercially for the team, then I must re-evaluate that position to determine a more suitable and appropriate way forward. That is why I have reached this decision. I am extremely proud of the progression that we have made as a team since we began our involvement in the British Superbike Championship back in 2012 running a Superstock machine, before moving to the Superbike class in 2013. My planning for the new season must begin now, so that we can be competitive by the start of the 2017 campaign. The much wider task for me personally over the coming weeks will certainly be to secure support from another manufacturer, along with a second rider that we will require to mount a serious title assault in 2017. However, it has been difficult discussing options with some riders for next season because I have been unable to make those plans clear due to the acute lack of information from Suzuki. With so many unknowns, it becomes almost impossible to have a sensible conversation with any potential second rider. They immediately need to know what is available and ultimately if that package is capable of winning. As team owner, I should be able to deliver that message with clarity, but unfortunately the position with Suzuki has not made that possible. We will continue to explore our options over the coming weeks and make further announcements in due course once we have spoken with other manufacturers and riders to determine the most appropriate way forward for the new season.” Calling all local motorbike riders Westhoughton Motor Cycle Club was established in 1987 and meets on the second and fourth Monday each month at The Wheatsheaf, Market Street, Westhoughton.
