Donna braves the shave for charity Last month we brought you the story of Donna Paton a very brave lady from Horwich who was going to do something completely bonkers and have her head shaved all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care. Donna was very nervous as her Brave the Shave day approached and on the 1st of October at the Bridge Inn Horwich, she finally said goodbye to her beautiful golden locks, in front of hundreds of spectators and raised an amazing £2,000 for the charity. Donna explained why she decided to shave off her lovely long hair, “Over recent months I have been touched too many times by the horrific disease that is Cancer!! On Christmas day 2015 I lost my uncle, in January my best friends mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, in July my mother-in-law passed away and most recently a close family friend (one of those Aunts from your childhood) has been diagnosed as terminally ill. I am not a Doctor or Scientist but I wanted to do something that can help support people going through the most terrifying time of their life and what better way than to make myself terrified and raise money for the fabulous Macmillan Support Services.” LIVINGINBL c The Brave the Shave event was a massive success with hundreds of well wishers joining in the fun day and supporting Donna, she told us, “I organised the event to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Care Services. It was fantastic and much more than I thought was possible, the bouncy castles and games tournaments were a big hit with everyone. The day ended with my Braving the Shave and with the support of our local Mayor, Councillor Jim Bullock and his Mayoress Mrs Dorothy Bullock and the local community I raised an amazing £2000 for this very worthy cause. Seeing the selfless generosity or our local community has left me wondering what we can do next to support a needy charity and bring everyone together once more.” The Town Mayor of Horwich Cllr Jim Bullock who was very impressed with Donna and her fundraising said, I must thank Donna Paton and her friends who have raised £2000 to support McMillan Nurses. It does prove what a small motivated group can achieve.” Congratulations Donna, we are already looking forward to your next fundraising event! PAGE 19
