SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015 Building a Good Relationship with Your Grandkids Take time to make memories and have fun by Jamie Lober, Staff Writer Having a grandchild is a gift, says Charlotte Whittaker, a volunteer with AARP. “It is a special bond,” she said. It is all about making memories, and Whittaker has gone above and beyond to expose her grandkids, ranging in age from 3 to 22 years, to as many different experiences as possible. “Every year I do a mystery trip,” she said. “I do not tell them where we are going, just to pack their suitcase.” One memorable trip was to Fort Knox and the Patton Museum. “Their dad was in Desert Storm, so it was nice to see the Jeeps and guns that were in the 2 HAMBURG JOURNAL war,” Whittaker said. “Then we went to Hopkinsville to Lincoln’s birthplace, where we got to talk about Lincoln, what an important president he was and what he did for our country.” Afterwards, they went to Wigwam Village in Horse Cave. They stayed in a teepee, and next morning got up and went to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. This past summer, Whittaker stood
