Mammoth Cave Worth a Visit
Historic national park offers accessible activities

If you grew up in Kentucky or
have lived here for a while, there’s
a good chance you’ve been to
Mammoth Cave National Park,
located about two hours southwest
of Lexington. Whether it’s your
first or your 15th trip, September
and October are great months to
spend the day or weekend at this
Kentucky gem.
Of course, many visitors go for
the popular cave tours. Mammoth
Cave is one of the oldest tourist
attractions in North America, and
tours have been offered there since

says there are many other activities
available at the park, depending on
your individual likes and physical
abilities. Some of these activities
include hiking, canoeing and kayaking on the Green River, picnicking, horseback riding, bicycling,
camping and more.
“So many people who come here
came here as children and now
they want to bring their children
and grandchildren,” Carson said.
“We hear that a lot, and we love
that generational connection.”
