MARCH/APRIL 2015 Water Features Enhance Landscape Relax, let it go, clear your mind by Jamie Lober, Staff Writer If you’re looking for a laidback addition to your landscape, a waterfall could be the answer. “Part of what the waterfall experience offers the homeowner is to relax, let things go by and clear the mind,” said Max Phelps, owner of Rock Castles Landscaping. “Water features are my pride and joy and that is what I enjoy the most.” For beginners, there are many ways to get your feet wet. However, adding a waterfall to your yard is not as easy as you may think. It takes a little education on the topic in order to install a waterfall the right way. “You can buy a book on [designing and installing waterfalls] or go to the garden center and tell them what you want,” said Phelps. “You can get a preformed tub that has a little pond, waterfall or tiny pump all in one kit, unpackage it and plug it in, but that is not what most people are thinking about. The sensible thing is to put some time in learning as opposed to learning by doing it wrong and redoing it.” There are various types of waterfalls. “If it is a low-entrylevel project where you want to spend a few bucks without a big investment and are not worried about anything except the trickle, you can do it on the fly,” Phelps said. “But if you are going to do a major project that is a big asset and a substantial piece of your land ͍
