Senior Helpers of
the Bluegrass
Reliable in-home care
offered for families facing
health challenges
by Jennifer Luttrell
David and Cindy Vance opened
Senior Helpers of the Bluegrass in
January 2009 to give seniors topquality home care in Lexington,
Frankfort and the entire Bluegrass
Region. The Vances are compassionate and well respected in the
community. They both lost parents to cancer and understand the
challenges family members face
when it comes to finding goodquality, reliable in-home care, as
well as a wide range of assistance
needed by the elderly.
Senior Helpers’ goal is to
help seniors live independently
at home. Senior Helpers offers
companionship, personal care and
assistance with daily activities,
including conversation, caring for
pets and plants, gardening, light
housekeeping, meal preparation,
medical reminders and personal
hygiene. It also provides assistance with shopping and errands,
transportation to appointments,
weekly check-in phone calls and
semi-monthly wellness visits by its
trained care team.
Senior Helpers assistance is
available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week or for just a few hours
a day. Prices range from $19.50$21.50 an hour. If your loved one
or their spouse served in the U.S.
military, he or she may be eligible
for home care benefits from the
Veterans Administration. The
company offers flexible service
options, and you can combine
them with your personalized
senior care plan, which can be
determined by requesting a free
in-home assessment.
A registered nurse will conduct
a full nursing assessment and
design a customized personal care
plan for you or your loved one.
The RN will then supervise the
caregiver, conduct periodic nursing assessments and monitor your
loved one’s changing needs.
Senior Helpers provides services in hospitals, nursing homes,
continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) and assisted
living centers and also provides
care when the patient transitions
back home.
Senior Helpers specializes in
dementia care. The Senior Gems®
25
program, created by Senior
Helpers®, is based on the Gems
techniques, strategies and overall
approach to care. This classification system allows trained Senior
Helpers caregivers to identify the
characteristics of different stages
of dementia and understand what
a person can still do.
Senior Helpers provides
Alzheimer’s and dementia care,
which includes customized
care plans, cueing programs to
stimulate memory, constant
patient monitoring, supervised
medication and daily activities.
Caregivers emphasize fostering supportive communication,
promoting a positive environment
and providing meaningful activities to help each senior continue
to live a fulfilling life comfortably
and safely at home.
