Lucille Gilmore is a poet, too.
Here are a couple of her poems:
Over the Hills There Is Home
(Written after a trip to South Dakota to see her son
and his family)
It’s nice to travel to places afar,
And see more of God’s wonders each day.
We feel His presence wherever we are;
We know He is guiding our way.
Although our travels find us far far away;
No matter where we may roam —
As soon as we turn to retrace our way,
We know that over the hills there is home.
As we travel along the highways of life,
Giving each new day our best.
Each new experience as child, husband, or wife,
Striving to pass every test.
It’s nice to know though our way’s short or long
Or through what way we may roam;
When we near the end of life’s wonderful song
We know that over the hills there is home.
Step Into Eternity
My step into Eternity
Is coming soon, I hope.
Life’s needs are getting burdensome
With them it’s hard to cope.
I’ve trouble getting sleep enough
I lie awake a lot
And when daylight finally comes,
I seem rooted in that spot.
But when I stop to think a bit
Giving thanks unto the Lord
That for myself I still can care
As I trust His loving word.
I move so slowly, lest I fall
And it’s hard for me to see
But I have food available
And loved ones who call and check
on me.
I have a loving family
And health care folks who stop by
to see.
So I have countless blessings
As I face eternity.
I’ve lived for many, many years
So now I need not stay
I hope I’m not a burden, Lord
To those who love me, that I pray.
So “thank You Lord” for this long life
I’ve many a golden memory
I’m looking forward to the day
When I step into eternity.
