to use the next one (unless the train company delays you in which case sometimes they will guarantee your onward travel for no extra cost). A 16-25 railcard is a good investment if you intend to use the train a few times, or to travel long distances – it costs £30, but you save 1/3 on every rail journey from then on. There are many websites to use to book your advance ticket online, but Sheffield is well served by Northern Rail and East Coast services. Red Spotted Hanky is also a good site for cheap rail deals. Some sites (e.g. Red Spotted Hanky) will charge you a booking fee of perhaps £1 or £1.50, whilst some won’t (e.g. East Coast) so factor this in when investigating what ticket is cheaper. For taxis, it is never advisable to get into an unlicensed minicab unless you have booked the firm in advance on the telephone, to protect your own safety. Always use licensed black cabs (called Hackney Cabs), readily available in the city centre. Other pre-book taxi services in Sheffield include Mercury (01 2662662) and City Taxis 14 (01 2393939). 14
