Creating a Healthy
Culture
ake a tour of the dōTERRA global campus on
any normal workday and you are likely to see
a volleyball tournament, employee-taught yoga
classes, a push-up challenge to raise money for one
of the many dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation®,
or a presentation in the auditorium about the experiences of
an employee as an extreme obstacle course athlete. It’s an
environment buzzing with activity, and that isn’t a coin
cidence. dōTERRA was founded not only upon the highest
quality essential oils, but also on the vision of promoting
health and lifelong vitality on a global scale. We are just
beginning to understand the power of environment and social
modeling. How our surroundings and the actions of those we
surround ourselves with influence our own behaviors. This is
never more evident than with our lifestyle habits. If you are
looking to make a positive change in your body composition
and lifestyle behaviors, consider your environment. You
may be better off examining with whom and where you are
spending your time before testing the effectiveness of the
newest diet or exercise trend.

One of the landmark weight management and overall well-being
studies of the past decade showed that one of the greatest factors in
your personal health is the health and lifestyle habits of those around
you. 1 It is incredibly difficult to integrate the principles of the dōTERRA
Wellness Lifestyle Pyramid into your life when those around you
aren’t. Likewise, your healthy lifestyle behaviors can have a positive
influence on your friends, your family, and, especially, your children.
Support and Competition
The influence of social networking groups, specifically peers at
work, can be very effective at increasing motivation and
adherence to exercise programs. 2 Humans are naturally social
beings and, concurrently, they are highly competitive. Both of
these inherent characteristics play a factor in how your social
group influences your progress toward reaching your health and
fitness goals. A recent study found that using social networking
groups to inspire healthy lifestyle behavior change and combining
it with a competition component can increase time spent
exercising up to 40 percent. 3 Start a social media–based exercise
