Voice of the Vet :
The Ties That Heal
Human-Animal Connection
Dr . Jeanette Yamamoto , a member of the dōTERRA Veterinarian Advisory Board , talks more about the human-animal connection and the association with essential oils .
I know I can ’ t be big or adventuro if I don ’ t take car of myself .
Simply put , animals are amazing ! I may be somewhat biased given that I ’ ve been a veterinarian for 20 years and have loved animals for as long as I can remember . Those of us who own pets or are around them regularly can ’ t argue with the fact that pets make us happy . Recently , scientific research has suggested pets can directly contribute to our health .
Over the past 50 years , medical research has shown how animals can improve both our mental and physical wellbeing . In fact , a study from the 1980s revealed that heart attack patients who owned pets were more likely to live longer than those who didn ’ t . More recently , a study from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine focused on how animal interaction could increase oxytocin levels . This hormone has physical and psychological effects , including positive influence on social behaviours and emotions .
