Winding down at the
end of the day can be
hard.
Parents always look forward to having a little peace and quiet once the kids are in bed at night.
Getting them to bed, however, can sometimes prove to be a battle. Using essential oils can significantly
ease the stress bedtime can cause. Use these tips to stop fighting bedtime, and get your kids to
sleep peacefully:
Establish a routine
Doing the same routine every night is key to
getting your kids to sleep. By following the
same steps every day, your kids will know it
is time to unwind and prepare for sleep. No
matter their age, a routine is needed. Try using
the dōTERRA Kids Collection oils around
the same time every night. Depending on the
needs of your little ones, or not so little ones,
try Rescuer™, Calmer™, or Steady™ to ease
any bedtime worries.
Start your diffuser
Beginning your bedtime routine with diffusing
calming oils is one of the best ways to start
bedtime. Use oils like Lavender, dōTERRA
Serenity®, or Ylang Ylang consistently each
night. That way, before you even say it is time
for bed, your children’s brains will know from
the calming scent.
Create a Custom Bedtime Blend
Smells can tell your kids brains that it is time for
sleep. Aside from running your diffuser there are
a number of ways you can use oils to let your
child know it is time for sleep. Try creating a
diffuser blend that is only used at bedtime.
Another way to use this blend is to put your
oils into a spray bottle with distilled water and
spray onto your child’s pillow right before bed.
The scent will help them stay asleep all night
long. If your child sleeps with a stuffed animal
or blanket, try using a small amount of oil on
the animal. A favorite bedtime blend is Vetiver,
Cedarwood, and dōTERRA Serenity®.

Story time yoga
Establishing a yoga flow with your children
before bed is a great way to work out last-minute
bedtime wiggles. One helpful tip is creating a
story to go along with your yoga poses. Use
these poses to make up your own story with
your kids.
Bedtime massage with
whipped oil butter
A parent’s touch can be one of the most calming
tools used for a young child. Connecting with
your child through contact at the end of the
day is a way to show your little one you care.
Try this recipe for oil butter for a foot massage
to calm your child before bed.
1/4 cup cacao, or cocoa, butter
1/4 cup whole coconut oil
20 drops Lavender
12 drops Vetiver
10 drops Frankincense
Simmer together cacao butter and coconut oil
until melted. Let the mixture rest for 10 minutes.
Add oils and then put in the fridge for about
an hour until firm. Whip the mixture with an
electric mixer until soft peaks form. Massage a
pea-sized amount into your children’s feet.
Bedtime does not have to be a dreadful
experience. Find a couple of small ways to ease
the tension. Pretty soon you will look forward to
bedtime as a special time with your little ones.
