Sanaag Specialty Hospital | Somaliland For the past two years, the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® has been working tirelessly to establish a hospital in Eastern Somaliland called the Sanaag Specialty Hospital. Currently, the healthcare situation in Sanaag is dire without a single functioning regional hospital to serve a population of approximately 500,000. The complete lack of infrastructure and medical services has left local communities with some of the highest maternal and child mortality rates in the world. Scheduled to open in 2020, the Sanaag Specialty Hospital will have immediate impact in the region. The facility will include 45 beds, an operating theatre for C-sections, and emergency services, as well as diagnostics, pediatrics, and maternity departments. Together with a network of remote health posts and outreach services, we will soon begin providing critical, life-saving health services to some of Somaliland’s most remote, underserved populations, including our cherished Frankincense harvesters. The hospital will be staffed by 47 personnel, including four local providers and one medical director with surgical expertise. Doctors Mona and Howa (pictured) were trained at Somaliland’s top-ranked medical program and have expertise in maternal care and C-sections. Along with the rest of our medical team, they will help save countless mothers and infants over their careers. “I have the utmost confidence in our team to deliver high-quality care in the region and look forward to seeing the impact the Sanaag Specialty Hospital will have on reducing infant and maternal mortality.”—Dr. Russell Osguthorpe, CMO of dōTERRA ® International. 84 dōTERRA HEALING HANDS FOUNDATION I ANNUAL REPORT 2019 Doctors Mona and Howa were trained at Somaliland’s top-ranked medical program and now work at the Sanaag Specialty Hospital. doterrahealinghands.org 85
