The Syrian Civil War is considered one of the greatest humanitarian crises of this generation. Over 4.7 million Syrians are now refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey after being forced to flee their homes. Many of these refugees have been deeply traumatized by the war and lack survival necessities. 64 Hungry Hearts International | Jordan Live Love Malawi | Malawi Kris Flecken and Arla Leins started working with Live Love Malawi in 2017. They’d previously met a special friend in Malawi named Alina; however, they later learned she’d passed away from malnutrition. Wellness Advocate Lynn Lavezzari and Sponsor Nicole Moultrie teamed up with the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® and Hungry Hearts International to support these refugees. Lynn desired to purchase vocational training materials for refugees in Jordan. She raised over $30,000, which was matched by the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation for a total of over $60,000, to buy the materials that Syrian women will use to make blankets, sweaters, and hats for the refugee population in their area. After Alina’s passing, Kris and Arla were at convention and learned about the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® matching grant program. They knew they wanted to turn their grief into action, and this was the perfect opportunity. These women had a dream of building a kitchen that would provide meals for the nearby school that Alina once attended. This kitchen would also be used to sell goods and provide incomes. To date, 150 refugee families have participated in this project, and over 30,800 blankets, sweaters, and hats have been made and distributed. Additionally, Syrian refugee women have together made over $500,000 to support their families. Kris and Arla raised $5,660, and the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation matched it for a total of $10,760, which was donated to Live Love Malawi, helping build their dream. dōTERRA HEALING HANDS FOUNDATION I ANNUAL REPORT 2019 doterrahealinghands.org 65
