Families Mentoring Families | Ghana For the people of Ghana, specifically Liberian refugees living there, success begins with literacy. Many Liberian refugees live in poverty because they lack job skills and educational opportunities. Families Mentoring Families is a nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to address the issue of illiteracy in Ghana. By opening the Liberian Literacy Center, the only library in a 30- mile radius that serves 20,000+ displaced Liberians living in Ghana, Families Mentoring Families hopes to preserve Liberian heritage through the written word and give refugees the skills needed to lift themselves out of poverty. “A library needs books, especially Liberian-specific books serving the Liberian community,” says Wellness Advocate LaReita Berky. Along with Diamond sponsors Terry and Lil Shepherd and the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® , LaReita purchased 40 Liberian-specific books for the new literacy center, along with a computer, copier, laminating machine, and air conditioner. “Our goal is to make the library a comfortable and inviting place to learn, where people can come, stay a while, and read.” —LaReita Berky Heng-Chun Christian Hospital | Taiwan The dōTERRA ® Taiwan team has a long history of initiating and completing charitable community development projects via Helping Hands, the term used to describe dōTERRA Healing Hands projects in China. This year, they raised funds to sponsor an afterschool class project with the Heng- Chun Christian Hospital. This project hosted 18 afterschool classes for 450 native Taiwanese pupils from underprivileged families. The class provided students with education and vocational training that would otherwise be inaccessible. Every year during the day of service, Wellness Advocates in the area have the opportunity to meet the children they sponsor and participate in a service project with them. 44 dōTERRA HEALING HANDS FOUNDATION I ANNUAL REPORT 2019 Hope 4 the Harvest | Costa Rica May schools in countries around the world require uniforms and notebooks for students to attend.
