Did you know that 88% of surveyed people agree that human trafficking prevention
education is a critical part of the fight against exploitation? 3Strands Global Foundation
envisions a world free of human trafficking and knows that prevention changes everything.
The year of 2019 was devoted to tailoring the PROTECT program to the needs of Utah
schools. New Utah legislation requires all public and charter schools across the state to
provide school personnel training and instruction on human trafficking prevention and
awareness. Using feedback from more than 200 educators, counselors, and administrators,
3Strands Global created PROTECT Utah and submitted it to the Department of Education.
Now that it’s approved, PROTECT is one of Utah’s official providers of human trafficking
prevention education. Though it is not widely discussed, boys are also victims of sex trafficking. Thanks to funding
from the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® and a monumental fundraising effort by
Wellness Advocate Gina Truman and her team, Operation Underground Railroad (OUR)
successfully opened the Kru Ja Aftercare Home in Thailand. This home currently houses 43
boys who survived trafficking and exploitation.

Kru Ja Aftercare Home provides housing, food, education, therapy, and healthcare to these
boys. Support from this home puts survivors on the path to healing. In some cases, the boys
get help preparing to testify against their traffickers. One boy recently traveled to California to
testify against his abuser. He was awarded restitution and is using it to rent an apartment and
attend school. Heartbreakingly, he contracted HIV and syphilis because of his exploitation
and abuse. OUR is following up to make sure he receives the necessary medical care.
Kru Ja Aftercare Home is helping boys exploited by sex trafficking to heal by providing them
with needed resources. From mental health services to vocational training, these boys have
the tools they need to ensure that they are not just victims—they are survivors.

The dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® partnered with Freedom Now Africa to help fight
human trafficking in Kenya. This organization works in hostile environments to combat all forms
of modern slavery, including child sex trafficking. They work with local law enforcement units to
achieve necessary investigations and arrests. They also monitor rehabilitation organizations that
assist rescued victims in their recovery and reintegration back into society.
In 2019, many victims from Kenya and Uganda who were sold in the Middle East were rescued
by Freedom Now Africa, thanks in part to the contributions and care from Wellness Advocates.
