2019 Convention
Pearls with Purpose | Dominican Republic
Together with Mentors International, the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® established
a loan center in the Dominican Republic to support individuals rescued from sex trafficking.
This center offers business education classes and an artisan program to give women
marketable skillsets and tools to create their own businesses.
In 2019, the Mentors International Pearls with Purpose program held their first jewelry-making
class in the Dominican Republic. The two-week class was taught to women rescued
from sex trafficking. At the end, the participants had the skills to create beautiful
jewelry pieces and were invited to apply for microloans to start their own business.
The bracelets made by the Pearls with Purpose program were sold at the dōTERRA ®
2019 Together Convention.
After the program, four women went back to their village and trained 16 more women in
jewelry. Giving these women a trade and business opportunity helps them change their lives,
provides them with an income, and reduces their vulnerability to sex trafficking.
