17. Obtaining Energy
All life requires a constant supply of energy.
An autotroph is an organism that can make its own food.
o Autotrophs are also celled producers.
o Most producers make food by photosynthesis using
light energy.
o During photosynthesis :
Plants take in carbon dioxide (CO2) and water
The chloroplasts in plant cells contain
chlorophyll which captures light energy used
during photosynthesis.
Plants release oxygen (O2), glucose ( C6H12O6)
and water as products of photos
