B. General Notes: 1. A cell is the smallest unit of an organism that carries on the functions of life. 2. Anything that causes some change in an organism is a stimulus. 3. Organisms use energy to stay organized and perform activities like homeostasis. 4. All of the changes that take place during an organism’s life are called development. 5. Living things need a place to live, water, and food. 6. All living organisms carry out basic life processes such as respiration, excretion, digestion, growth and development, assimilation, reproduction, and response . 7. Spontaneous generation is the idea that living things come from nonliving things. 8. The work of Louis Pasteur disproved the theory of spontaneous generation. 9. Biogenesis is the theory that living things come only from other living things. 10.A biotic factor is a living organisms in an environment- such as trees, bacteria, animals. 11.An abiotic factor is a nonliving factor in the environment- such as water, air, temperature. 12.Size is a limiting factor in all living things. If a cell gets too large it must divide or die.
