Merseyside Schools Public Speaking Competition 2014 Liverpool Law Society is pleased to announce its fifth Merseyside Schools Public Speaking Competition is taking place in early 2014. Interest has been extremely high with 13 schools from across Merseyside taking part. Pupils, between the ages of 13 and 15, have been battling it out in regional heats on the topics of ‘A statutory retirement is a necessary evil’ and ‘Great Britain should become a secular country’. The following schools took part in the January and February heats: Birkenhead School Christian Fellowship School Enterprise South Liverpool Academy Liverpool College Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ School Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School Sacred Heart Catholic College Savio Salesian College St Edward’s College St Marys Catholic College The Belvedere Academy Tower College West Kirby Grammar School The heat at West Kirby Grammar School The Final of the competition will be held on 10th March 2014 in the Moot Room at Liverpool John Moores University’s School of Law with Dr Tony Harvey, Head of Postgraduate Legal Studies at LJMU and Liverpool Law Society President Glenys Hunt among the judges. Previous winners of the competition have included Archbishop Blanch High School, St Edward’s College and most recently the Christian Fellowship School. All Society members are welcome to attend the Final of the competition to see talented young stars of the future go ‘head to head’ to win the competition. This will be followed by an informal reception with light refreshments where the winning school will be presented with a trophy and each of the finalists will be given a certificate. There is no charge for attending this event which encourages excellence in our schools and raises the profile of the profession in a very positive way.
