News from the MJLD
Solicitors Insight Day at the University of Law, Chester
Thursday 9th January 2014
Committee members from the MJLD attended at the University of
Law to talk to students about their routes into law and an average
day in the office.
Benjamin Fraser, of DLA Piper UK LLP, Amy Armstrong of Hill
Dickinson, Mark Gannon of KLS Law and Charlie Mahoney of
MSB Solicitors each delivered a short presentation describing how
their careers had progressed since university and trying to
summarise the day to day duties of a young legal professional.
The talks were followed by the panel hosting an enthusiastic
question and answer session with 40 students, all of whom are
preparing to apply for the GDL/LPC courses. The session ended
with some informal networking.
The presentations were part of the University of Law’s solicitor
insight day which gives students the opportunity to delve into the
life of practising professionals, through a series of presentations
and networking events. The panel provided extensive insight and
opinion and were honest and realistic when answering questions.
We hope that all of the students came away with a clear idea of
what is required to work in the law and that they took an
optimistic outlook from the event with regards to a career in the
profession.
