It’s simple, go to www.linkedin.com and enter your name, email address and password in the boxes on the home page, click the yellow ‘Join now’ button and follow the instructions. There is no cost to joining LinkedIn. Registration takes just a few minutes however it will take longer to create your own profile. You should give the content of your profile some thought. Your profile is made up of such information as your background, your current job, your skills and expertise, your education history and a photograph. Don’t worry if you are not able to complete this in one go. You can return to your profile page another day to continue editing or updating. Once you have completed your profile, you are ready to start connecting to people, groups and companies that appear on Linkedin.com. For example, type "Liverpool Law Society" in the search bar found at the top of the page and click the listing marked "Company" that shows up beneath. Click the yellow "Follow" button to the right of the following page, and you can then keep yourself updated with the Society and connect with other members, all from within LinkedIn! If you need help or further information, LinkedIn.com has its own Help Centre that you can access. This appears in a drop down list when you hover your cursor over your profile photo along the top navigation bar (this is also where you ‘sign out’ at the end of your session). And there are other websites that cover the dos and don’ts of social media usage which are worth a read.
