With the initiation of the Sheikh Zayed City, the
6th of October City began to advance as more
than an industrial zone. The 6th of October City
began to develop further into the west with in-
dustrial zones at the boundaries of the region
(Figure 7). At the centre, as the construction
of the 6th of October University began in 1995,
mixed-use buildings began to appear around
the university to meet the demand for nearby
services, commercial and housing facilities, es-
pecially for the university students.
