support or from the owners themselves.
Improvements in the overall experience
have the potential to increase the attrac-
tiveness of the area to a greater population
catchment.
In addition, the previously analysed similar
practices provided lessons learned both on the
level of urban development, and social and
economic integration. These lessons should be
taken into consideration when providing future
development plans for the AAA.
• The introduction of new goods and prod-
ucts enriches the market and encourages
competitions.
• Incoming refugees provide opportunities
for the expansion of social and economic
networks both on a local and global scale.
• Taking into consideration existing street
vending activities: urban development
plans should allow the informal and for-
mal activities to occur while preserving the
character of the public space.
• Enhancing access and mobility: Improve
pedestrian accessibility, public transport,
an opportunity to meet the parking re-
quirements within the congested city.
• Upgrading physical elements: upgrading
physical elements such as signage, lighting,
landscaping and street furniture in order to
demarcate different activity zones.
• Organizations should not try to mediate
refugee and host community relationships;
this must be done at the individual and
community level.
• Inserting refugees into host community ac-
tivities and finding opportunities for them
to have more encounters can expand and
strengthen both communities.
• Common grounds can be found between
refugee and host communities through mu-
tual built environment or social problems.
• Informal meetings in public spaces close to
target communities can often yield better
results than hosting a meeting in a formal,
enclosed space.
• Refugee influx can provide great economic
benefits to host communities and States.
