5.5.7 DESIGN OF GREEN AREAS AND PEDESTRIANIATION OF THE MAIN INTERNAL STREET Key Partners Mall Managers, CA, and Shop owners/keepers, Street Vendors, 6th of October University Project Description The aim of this intervention is to utilize the un- used green areas adjacent to the 6th of Octo- ber University to increase the pedestrian area, parking spaces and public open space activities. In addition, a new vehicular street is proposed parallel to the 6th of October University to di- rectly access the proposed multi-story park in the location of the exiting parking area. This area could also be used to relocate the street vendors. This proposal is dependent on the required de- tailed traffic and mobility study. Proposed Activities • Design the street section according to acceptable standards and international guidelines. • Demarcation of the different functions of public open space activities, including shop extensions, street vending stalls, pedestri- an paths, and street furniture. • Improve and maximize pedestrian circula- tion. • Increase street lighting and vegetation. • Relocation of street vendors • Use of low cost materials to avoid increas- ing the land value. Below are 3D (Figure 102Figure 103) and 2D (Figure 104Figure 105Figure 106Figure 107) il- lustrations of the proposed design intervention. 5.5 | Mid Term Intervention Proposals | 166
