5.5.4 PEDESTRIANIZATION OF THE STREET PARALLEL TO THE “SYRIAN PASSAGE” Project Description The aim of this intervention is to: • Improve the street section of the internal street parallel to the Syrian Passage, and relieve pressure from it. • Pedestrianize the central part of the “Divid- ed from al-Tahrir” street. The internal street parallel to the “Syrian Pas- sage” is a good potential for pedestrianization as it has low vehicular and high pedestrian flows. In addition, the pedestrianization of the central part of the “Divided from al-Tahrir” street could enhance the pedestrian experience of the area and reduce traffic jams. Proposed Activities • Design the street section according to acceptable standards and international guidelines. • Demarcate of the different functions of public open space activities, including shop extensions, street vending stalls, pedestri- an paths, and street furniture. • Improve and maximize pedestrian circula- tion. • Increase street lighting and vegetation. • Use of low cost materials to avoid increas- ing the land value. Below are 3D (Figure 98,Figure 99) and 2D (Fig- ure 100, Figure 101) illustrations of the pro- posed design intervention. 161 | INTERVENTION PROPOSALS Key Partners Mall Managers, CA, and Shop owners/keepers,
