Safeguarding
We want our residents to
be free from all forms of
abuse. We’re committed
to safeguarding the
wellbeing of all residents
living in our homes.
Support your neighbours
Winter can be a difficult time for the elderly and less mobile.
Please look out for your neighbours and check on them
regularly. It could make all the difference to them this winter.
You could consider getting involved with our volunteering
programme, find out more on page eight or visit our website:

Eat well
It’s tempting
to fill up on
comfort food
when it’s cold outside.
But a healthy diet,
including five portions
of fruit and veg each
day, will help you ward
off coughs and colds.
When you need a
sugar boost, go for a
juicy clementine. And
winter veg are great for
turning into a delicious
soup. For hearty
recipes visit: www.

Avoid winter
tiredness
Keep warm
As a responsible landlord,
we’ve a duty to report
all instances of abuse
or suspected abuse.
If you’re concerned
about something you’ve
seen or heard relating
to an Optivo resident,
please contact us to
report it: contactus@

Staying warm
over the colder
month s can help
prevent colds, flu and
serious health problems
such as strokes and
heart attacks. Try to
stay active when you’re
indoors, don’t sit still for
more than an hour or so.
Wear layers of thinner
clothes, this will trap
warm air better than
one bulky layer. Read
more on page six about
energy efficient ways
to heat your home.
You might feel tired
and sluggish during the
winter. This is because
the lack of sunlight
can disrupt our normal
sleep cycles. To avoid
this, get outdoors in
natural daylight as much
as you can. Aim to go to
bed and wake up at the
same time every day. If
you feel stressed, try
exercise or meditation.
Get the flu jab
The flu virus can be
really serious and may
even lead to further
health complications.
The flu jab is free if
you’re over 65 or if you
have a long term health
condition. Carers,
pregnant women and
young children may
also be entitled to free
flu vaccines. Speak to
your GP or pharmacist
for more information.
Cold weather can be bad for your health. If you start to feel unwell, even if it’s a cough or a cold,
don’t wait until it gets more serious. Seek advice from your local pharmacist.
