OMT Behind the Scenes

SAAO members at Ohio University have the unique opportunity to participate in the Science and Health in Artistic Clinic (SHAPe clinic). This clinic was created to provide performing arts students the ability to be evaluated, treated, and receive health and wellness advice from licenses athletic trainers free of charge. In addition, medical students under the supervision of Dr Law, a family medicine physician and faculty member at OUHCOM, are able to help these students by performing OMM. While helping several students they shared how much OMM impacted the outcome of their injuries and continue to come back frequently. In addition, it was a really great opportunity to interact with athletic trainers and see the techniques they use to help the same injuries in a different way. During this experience we learned how to help treat trigger points and practiced several soft tissue techniques including kneading and suboccipital release.
