Serving Those Who Serve

This December 7th, in rural Harrogate, TN, OMS students at LMU-DCOM provided the second free OMT clinic this year for local Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Both 1st and 2nd year students came together to help serve those who dedicate themselves to serving the community. It was an excellent opportunity to spread the osteopathic mission and, as well, provided a unique learning opportunity for newly admitted 1st years to experience their first true somatic dysfunctions and releases. The eminent Dr. Howard Teitelbaum proctored the event, guiding students with the experience of a well-seasoned osteopath. This event was so well-received it is now biannual at DCOM SAAO. ❉

The Overflowing Osteopathic Cup

In a commitment to seeding the osteopathic legacy in the foothills of the Appalachia, LMU-DCOM SAAO is hosting “Greet and Treat” every Wednesday evening in the OMT Lab. Similar to Convocation’s “Evening with the Stars”, this weekly gathering of dedicated osteopathic students is an opportunity for experienced clinical growth through direct shadowing and consultation with colleagues. Everyone in the LMU family, from faculty to janitorial staff, and from veterinary students to M.S. students, are invited to receive free OMT provided by faculty doctors, fellows, and 2nd year medical students. 1st year students are given the opportunity to shadow anyone of their choosing and begin to learn real-time osteopathic diagnostic and treatment styles from a variety of sources. This event has become more and more popular every year and has recently reached a fever-pitch of excitement with the last bevy of participants literally filling the lab to its capacity. It is evident that, at LMU-DCOM, students are excited to both teach and learn. The future of Osteopathy is bright in the state of Tennessee. ❉
