In November 2015, Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine SAAO held an OMT lunchtime workshop entitled “HVLA Mechanical Advantage Modification.” With the help of Dr. Heather Ferrill and Dr. Adrienne Kania, our second year class had the opportunity to refine their HVLA treatment techniques in order to treat patients who have a much different body habitus than their own, for example the short student doctor treating a tall or large patient. The workshop was incredibly valuable for students who had been struggling to treat patients of differing body habitus and students who felt they did not have enough strength to perform various treatments. Drs. Ferrill and Kania provided insight on how to improve localization, leverage, and force for three popular HVLA treatments: Lumbar, Kirksville Crunch, and Texas Twist. Below are some of the highlights from our workshop – hopefully they help you in personalizing your treatments! ❉
