TUCOM’s First Annual A. Hollis Wolf Competition!

This year marked the beginning of Touro California College of Osteopathic Medicine’s tradition of holding an A. Hollis Wolf Competition amongst our very own students. The A. Hollis Wolf Case Competition is a chance for all osteopathic medical students on and off campus who have found an interesting medical case to show off how they treated their patient. Because TUCA students are so fortunate to have many opportunities to practice osteopathy on and off campus (we have FOUR student run clinics!: the Touro Student Run Free Clinic, Berkeley Women’s Suitcase Clinic, Berkeley General Suitcase Clinic and the SAAO Lunchtime OMM Clinic) and to be able to treat patients during rotations, this year we had three contestants: Darif Krasnow, OMSIII; Tracy Krinard, OMSIII; and Sara Modlin, OMSIV, who presented some amazing cases. We chose three non-OMM faculty members who judged our contestants on their ability to demonstrate an understanding of osteopathic principles and the application of patient diagnosis and appropriate treatment. They looked for a clear, concise discussion of how the osteopathic care was performed, how the basic sciences were integrated with osteopathic medicine principles, and how the student-doctor went about the decision-making process. Sara Modlin, a current 4th year fellow and past SAAO president, won our school-wide competition and will represent Touro California at the National A. Hollis Wolf Competition this March in Orlando, Florida! Her presentation impressed us all with its use of medical imaging and clear discussion of treatment and thought process. Touro California will be cheering her on at the National competition in March! service in this country and abroad, and to promote the learning and use of OMT in all stages of medical care. ❉
