The Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) at the University of Pikeville initiates students to take responsibility in building confidence for osteopathic manipulative treatment. The Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO) KYCOM chapter is responsible for providing additional communication avenues between faculty and students. KYCOM’s “Night with the Stars” is a new addition for 2015 by our chapter to instill this concept. The chapter is excited and very hopeful for this addition, which will build OMT confidence amongst the students by gaining valuable knowledge form clinically experienced D.O.s and Fellows. The chapter also continues the tradition of the Principles of Osteopathic Medicine MOCK practical which bridges the communication gap between first and second year students. This event has helped with second year student responsibility and decreased anxiety for first year students who are experiencing their first practical in Principles of Osteopathic Medicine (POM) course. The College continues the integration of responsibility with the second year students through the Teacher Assistant program, in which KYCOM opens an application process for approximately forty second year students. The student is expected to continue to hone OMT skills in order to build confidence for the first year OMT education curriculum. Once again, communication between faculty and students is stressed for this program to succeed. ❉
