Fort Worth Osteopathic Study Group

by Roni Gaffney

Chapter National Representative

The TCOM Chapter of SAAO is excited to announce the creation of the first ever Fort Worth Osteopathic Study Group (FWOSG). Modeled after the long standing Dallas Osteopathic Study Group, the FWOSG brings together physicians and students on a monthly basis to take learning beyond the classroom or office setting. The focus of FWOSG is to introduce students to techniques or concepts not seen in the classroom. It allows students to see OMM being applied to different modalities, such as cancer, and gives students an opportunity to network with local physicians. Additionally, first year students gain more experience and confidence in their OMM skills as much of the session instruction is one-on-one. Spearheaded by Dr. Sheila Page, DO, the group uses a casual, informal learning environment to make the students feel at ease. A pizza dinner is provided to all student participants to make attending the session during the dinner hour easy. Though we’ve only had one session, turnout for that session was high and attendance and interest in future sessions is only expected to grow. Our last session was on September 24th, 2015 where Dr. Daniel Freeland, DO, instructed attendees on how to perform a Head to Toe OMM evaluation in a 10 minute office exam. Stay tuned for more developments from our chapter on the implementation of the FWOSG. ❉
