The PCOM

SAAO Executive Board

As the year winds down and the OMS-2s prepare for their upcoming boards, the torch passes down to the new chapters' executive boards. We wish all the OMS-2s the best of luck on their COMLEX Step 1, after which they will be one step closer to becoming physicians. We would also like to thank the OMS-4s and the 5th year fellows who have generously donated their time, knowledge, and skills in order to inspire, challenge, and motivate us to work hard toward our dreams of becoming great Osteopathic physicians. Congratulations on completing the match and good luck as you begin your intern year of residency.

Though the snow has melted, the trees have blossomed, and the year is coming to a close at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), the PCOM-SAAO chapter is in the process of planning exciting new events involving the students, faculty, and community. We began the new term by running a review session for the 1st year students' recent practical exam on thoracic HVLA, costal HVLA, and costal muscle energy. Additionally, we have prepared a drill session to help students become more confident with their diagnostic abilities, which they can apply to different treatment options. The executive board successfully completed a practice run, and the board looks forward to opening the drill session up to the student body at large next month. (If you would like to hear more about what we have prepared e-mail Isaac Bennett at: [email protected]) To raise money for charity and help OMS-2s prepare for their end of the year cumulative OMM exam, the OMM faculty has partnered with the PCOM-SAAO to put together an evening review session. The donations raised from the event will benefit the Foundation Fighting Blindness and will help raise awareness about the upcoming Philadelphia Vision Walk on October 11, 2014 from 8:45am-noon. This event is being co-chaired by PCOM student Jeffery Gazzara (OMS-2). We have also paired up with the PCOM Primary Care Scholars Program, and look forward to presenting OMM and its benefits to the program's Heart Healthy Campaign participants. Of course, we are going to bring our tables and will follow up the presentation with some hands on time.

We look forward to our term serving as the executive board of our chapter and we wish all the new executive boards success as they dive into their own terms. We are always open and excited to collaborate with other chapters throughout the year, either in person or via video conferencing in order to connect with other SAAO students. (If you have interest in setting up a session with our chapter next year e-mail us at [email protected])

Sincerely,

The PCOM-SAAO E-Board
