SARA MONI
COSPLAYER FROM USA
We interviewed the lovely Sara
Moni, a well-known Cosplayer from
the USA! Not only is she a Cosplayer, but a Nintendo & PC gamer too!
Check it out..
Hi Sara, tell us abit about yourself..
Hi there! My name is Sara Moni And
I am born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. I am an only child and
I grew up in a creative household.
My mom used to model, and my dad
used to be a DJ- And now he restores
classic cars. So I have a passion
for fashion, and attractive engines!
They also both enjoy science-fiction
and fantasy so I grew up loving it too.
Not celebrating Halloween, I seized
every opportunity I could to dress up.
How and when did you get into
Cosplay?
I have been making costumes since
about 2007. But I did not get really
into it until 2010. I have a great group
of friends who are also costumers
and I love the work they did! In 2012
I joined the Arizona Avengers, a
Marvel costuming group for charity,
and met so many supportive people.
Then I got a really good deal on a
new sewing machine, and the rest is
history! Ha!
What do you love about Cosplay?
Being able to step aside from reality and be someone or something
bigger than myself or anything I
know. I love crafting things and making things with my hands to cancel
out how much I use the computer,
phone, or any technology.
There is something very satisfying
and natural about it. I can’t put a
price on the feeling I get when I am
becoming the characters that I love.
Not to mention being immersed in a
world and community of like-minded
people.
I have yet to have a bad or negative
experience and I think there is a lot
to be said about that.
Who’s your favourite character
to cosplay and why?
So far, either Wasp or Miss America
Chavez. The version of Wasp that
I cosplay is her ultimate version,
And it is a version that I have never
seen done before. She is one of my
favorite characters and this version
of her looks a lot like me! Also she
has the big wings which are always
fun to wear, and I get to have short
hair! My natural hair is about to my
mid back, so wearing a pixie cut
wig is totally out of the norm. Miss
America Chavez is one of my favorite characters from one of my
favorite series: Young Avengers.
She embodies all of the awesome
butt kicking heroine traits that I can’t
get enough of! I am also so happy
to have another heroine of color in
the Marvel universe. When I posted
that cosplay on tumblr, I was actually recognized by Kieron Gillen and
Jamie McKelvie for my work! That
was such an awesome feeling to
get their approval! So I am officially
a ringer for Miss Chavez!
