CARMAGEDDON (STAINLESS SOFTWARE DOS 1997) Let me take a moment to mention more about this game rather than the controversial content. It is an open-world racing game where you have many choices on how and where you can win the race. Either smash all the opponents with the various manic power-ups spread out in the stage or race traditionally through the various checkpoints. Of course if you haven’t figured it out already or played the game, the graphic content in the game is primarily focused on running over pedestrians for points with trails of blood left from tyre tracks. Surprisingly the game didn’t get banned or censored in Australia but rather got slapped with an MA15+ sticker with bolder font. This is a game definitely worth playing due to how much fun it is (ignoring the pedestrian factors) and a remake of the game is currently in development by the same company who made the original, which will be released on nextgen consoles. HONOURABLE MENTIONS There are so many games worth mentioning, here are just some more known for controversies: Grand Theft Auto (Language, violence, criminal activity) Custer’s Revenge (Racial profiling and sexual content) Voyeur (Adult themes) Phantasmagoria (Graphic death scenes and alleged rape scene) Punch Out (Racial profiling) Wolfenstein 3D (Nazi imagery and violence) Duke Nukem 3D (Violence, language and Nudity) Postal (Anti-law and violence) Written by David Kudrev www.retrospekt.com.au
