GAMING IN
THE UK
The war between Microsoft’s Xbox
One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 is well
and truly heating up in 2014!
With a steady flow of both consoles
now streaming into the stores, users are faced with a tough decision
- ‘do I go Xbox One or PlayStation
4?’ This really is a personal decision
and there’s no right of wrong answer
here.
However, as a gamer, the question
has to be asked - why aren’t either
in the future with regards to the total units sold per company. Could it
be a neck to neck race? That’s anyone’s call at this stage.
Namco Bandai have been pushing
The Witcher 3 hard of late. Recently
releasing more game play screeners
its looking to be an awesome game
and I have a feeling that it will be
HUGE!! For those not familiar with
The Witcher franchise, it follows the
story of one of the remaining ‘witchers’ - a monster hunter gifted with

Battlefield 4 has been causing a bit
of a stir.... again!! EA and DICE recently announced that for the month
of February, they would be having
‘Player Appreciation Month’. Why
has this been causing a stir? Well,
your pretty much getting something
for free! Everyday when you log on,
you will be rewarded with a bronze or
silver battlepack (a suitcase packed
full of goodies like XP boosts, camos, weapon attachments) something that would only be obtainable
by levelling up. EA have advised
that if a player logs in ever day over
the month it will save a whopping 30
hours of game play! A lot of people
don’t think this is fair as they have
been working hard to level up to attain the battlepacks and enjoy the
thrill of the chase so to speak. But
is this enough to bring the fans back
to Battlefield 4? Many are saying
that DICE rushed to get the game
released on all consoles and that
it wasn’t finished. It has been met
with many issues - server issues,

company doing anything to entice the
buyers to pick one console over the
other? I think that both Sony and Microsoft could have done something
for the buyers - a free 3 month subscription to Xbox Live or a 3 months
subscription to PlayStation plus. I
mean, you just forked out a few hundred quid, the least they could do
is give you a little something to say
thankyou! Ok, so it’s not the be all
and end all, but a gesture of some
sort would have been a great marketing ploy to draw people in more.
With that being said, the consoles
are still flying out the door and it will
be very interesting to see some stats
unnatural powers. RPG based, you
need to make ‘moral choices’ to
change the direction to the game.
Also causing a lot of chatter over
here at the moment is Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls Online. With a little over
2 months to go until its release, this
will be the first MMO from the developer and the talk around town is that
fans can’t wait! The jury is still out on
the subscription based online play,
however, dedicated fans really won’t
be phased in paying a few pounds a
month to have access to a game that
they only dreamt would be an MMO.
game freezes, lack of updates - all
of which have left a sour taste in
many players mouths. I truly believe
that Battlefield can come back from
the negativity as the franchise is brilliant, there are just some teething issues that EA and DICE really need
to address to keep the fans happy.
Well that’s it from the UK gaming
scene for this month! Keep your
eyes peeled for a review on Dark
Souls II to be carried out by yours
truly very soon!
