Whether we talk about women’s domestic, social, professional or personal lives, the power of a confident and demanding body language cannot be stressed enough. Whether we talk about the wage gap across many workplaces or the gender inequality in rural and sadly in many urban and developed areas too, it has been widely seen that women don’t ask.
They just don’t ask. They deliver; and they assume that they will get what they truly deserve without having to fearlessly demand for it. Even when they can clearly see that their potential far exceeds what they get in return, they hesitate before speaking up. Again they are told not to think like this and carry on giving their best without thinking too much about the results. They are also told that they are at least gaining experience and learning something new.
Well people who say so may be partially correct, but if the reason why they’re getting less than what they deserve is because of their hesitation in demanding for what they rightly deserve, then that’s extremely sad and an attack to their own abilities, skills and talents. It means not doing justice to one’s potential and that’s when the question of fair and equal rights and freedom of expression comes into play.
What seems extremely important now is the creation of an environment for women where they can make decisions of their own for their personal benefits as well as for the society. Women need to feel confident enough to claim their rights, like the right to get their desired choice of education, the right to have complete control of their lives both within and outside of their home and workspace, the right to equal employment opportunities without any gender bias and the right to freely live the life that they want and deserve with a sense of self worth, respect and dignity.
