Another unsung hero

Our unsung hero this month is Angela Campbell.
She has been involved with Live Arico for the past 3 years. Angie will cheerfully turn her hand to anything that benefits the dogs. She began at the refuge, picking up dog muck, and collecting blankets and donations for the refuge.
When the refuge closed, she was still determined to do something to help so she moved to the Los Cris shop where her experience as a shop manageress helped to transform the local. At the same time, she held down a job and brought up her family.
But when her job hours increased and she had to give up the shop shifts, that didn’ t stop her helping animals. She turned to fostering instead. She currently cares for Bess, the beautiful, gentle podenco type dog who is still waiting for a forever home. Angie devotedly carried out 4 months of physio on Bess to bring her back to health.
‘ I think Live Arico is one of the best things that has happened for the dogs on the island’, she said.
We agree. But that’ s only because of Angie herself and all the other wonderful supporters like her that make up the organization.

Volunteer’ s party

The Volunteer’ s Party was held on March 9th at the Heritage Bar in Los Cris.
It was a joint event, hosted by K9, Cats Welfare and LA Paws.
It was a pleasant opportunity to mingle, catch up with old friends and put faces to names.
The sun blazed down as everybody relaxed while listening to the artists who all performed for free. Then the Timelords stepped up the tempo with their set and soon the place was rocking.
There were loads of great tombola and raffle prizes so nearly everybody won something.
Then it was time to tuck into the handsome spread which was met with looks of hopeful expectation from the canine contingent. No doubt they got their share too.
Little Rose, now greatly recovered, looked a picture as she had been specially clipped for the occasion.
The evening was rounded off with a quiz and Los Cris Shop team carried off first prize of a bottle of Ballantyne’ s.
Finally, the MC from K9 gave a speech of appreciation for all the work that the volunteers had put in over the year. He also praised the spirit of co-operation and friendship that flourishes within our animal fraternity.
Everyone gave a cheer of agreement. A lovely, happy day was had by all.

Dave’ s shit shirt night.

The Los Cris shop has enjoyed a boost in trade from an unexpected source.
Our men’ s wear department has an extensive range of vibrant, summer shirts, many hardly worn. In fact some still have the packing creases in them.
It seems that ladies expect their other halves to get in the holiday spirit. Time to shake off those staid, dull colours and be more adventurous.
Sadly, not every husband can be persuaded to up the fashion stakes.
“ I’ m not wearing this. Someone will think I’ m a deckchair and sit on me”, moaned one donator.
With jagged, citrus stripes of lemon, lime and orange, this baby was Zinging!
Nevertheless, it found an eager buyer in a devotee of Dave’ s Shit Shirt Night at nearby Churchills Bar.
An alternative design in pearl grey with cerise clouds was soon snapped up by another shit shirter.
Well done to Churchills Bar and their wacky customers for helping to feed our animals.
Shirts that look like dog’ s dinners end up funding- dog’ s dinners.!!
