Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania, and it's the largest city of the country, with a population
of 539,939 people. Vilnius is inhabited by people of 128 different ethnicities, which makes
it the most ethnically diverse city in Lithuania. It is located in the southeast part of
Lithuania and it is the second biggest city of the Baltic states. The name of the city
originated from the Vilnia River. It derives from the Lithuanian language word vilnis ("a
surge") or vilnyti ("to surge").
Vilnius is both a modern european and cosmopolitan city with diverse architecture.
