We ’ ve all heard the dreaded words : Mercury ’ s in retrograde . It ’ s been associated with miscommunication , irrational thinking and technological breakdowns - but what does it all mean and how can we avoid the frustration it brings ?
When planets go into retrograde , it ’ s an optical illusion that makes it appear as if it ’ s moving backwards . It causes the planet to disconnect and go against what it governs .
Mercury rules over communication , technology and travel . When in retrograde , these elements are thrown into chaos . This occurs about three times a year , with the upcoming one between May 29th and June 22nd .
Think back to those frustrating moments that have happened in the past : your phone rudely deciding to die when using directions , projects not saving on your laptop , and not thinking before you speak . While it can bring about a lot of uncertainty and anxiety , all is not lost . Most of the situations that might arise during retrograde can be avoided through just simply taking things slower and staying calm . Easier said than done , but remember , we ’ re all in the same boat . Here ’ s a few ways you can survive the retrograde ’ s wrath .
Second Guess Yourself : In normal circumstances , we ’ d never suggest going against your intuition . However , during Mercury retrograde , you ’ re prone to being way off with situations . Don ’ t rush : instead , take time to settle on decisions .
Invest In A Portable Charger : Whenever there is a bad time for your phone to die , it will . Be prepared and avoid any tech mishaps .
No Texting The Ex : We know it ’ s cliché , but listen : put the phone down . Be incredibly cautious of all of your communication decisions , both online and in real life .
Plan Ahead : Delays and cancellations are aplenty during the retrograde . Any travel must be done with great care , so check for any problems with cars or bikes before heading out and plan as far ahead as possible . ☾
