A BEHIND THE WORDS COLUMN

DECISION
As an Indie Author, the love of writing and showing that love with my words on the pages, is not only something I’m passionately compelled to do, but it’s something I want to share— and grow my career with.
There are times—many times, as an author, I’ve felt defeated. Perhaps on the precipice of throwing in the proverbial towel… then the little voice inside my soul…my stronger voice, stops me and puts me in my place.
And of course, it being the voice of reason, I continue scribing the characters and stories swirling around in my head…creating what I hope to be my best work to date.
Now…once those last two words are written, you know the ones—“the end”… it’s time to do the necessary tasks of getting the book ready for its debut. Sure, I know the ropes by now. I’m going to post a cover reveal, maybe throw out a few teasers here and there, schedule a review blitz, a newsletter mail out, run some giveaways, set up a party for go live day, do author takeovers with professionals I’ve connected with in the author/book community, or I’m going to take this specific book in a new direction and send it out to agents, acquisition editors, and small press.
No matter what I decide for my next novel, marketing, whether I’m Indie or I go traditional, still requires me to do the work. And why wouldn’t it? It is my work—my story. I should be the one to give it the best send off and the best advertisement because honestly, as an author, your work…is you.
So the book is completed, the marketing and promotion is in full swing, I’m feeling pretty good about everything…and then something new comes along…
