extent. What happened next was that the French language became the language of the elite, the dominant, and the ruling class, while Arabic and Amazigh remained the languages of the submissive natives.
In the spring of 2018, in Morocco, a campaign was launched on the“ Facebook” platform, called“ Morocco in English”. It witnessed a wide and rapid spread. The purpose of the campaign was to replace the French language with the English language because the latter is becoming an essential tool to develop the level of scientific research and to open new horizons for the youth.
I believe that nowadays, in Morocco, the Amazigh language is starting to thrive. The Amazigh resistance and the willingness to revive their identity, was crucial to protect the original texts, poetry and traditions, to preserve the heritage, and leave their legacy to the future generations. As a result, many actions have been taken:
• An organization called the“ Amazigh Cultural Movement” was founded in 1989 by many Amazigh activists whose motivation was to preserve their heritage. That was the pioneer to defend the indigenous peoples rights and to advocate for protecting their language and culture.
• In 2011, the Constitution officially recognized the Amazigh identity and Tamazight as an official language besides Arabic.
• Creation of Royal institute of Amazigh culture that aims to preserve the indigenous people heritage.
• A few years ago, the government decided to authorize teaching the Amazigh language in elementary schools.
On the other hand, the Arabic language is distinguished by being the language of the Islam religion, it is one of the most important and oldest languages, and it includes many meanings, terms, and aesthetics. However, Arabic represents a threat to the west and the western civilization, in the eyes of those who invented“ Islamophobia”. To some extent, it has become a great obstacle to the goal of globalization, therefore, Arabic will still be targeted, in vain, by multiple haters and opponents all over the time.
Finally, the French language is losing its charm among people in Morocco, and soon will be killed by English. The government has already started implementing some strategies to replace the French language with the English one, especially in the fields of education and media.
