AI was issued covering many employment-related items such as initiatives to prevent discrimination. According to The National Conference of State Legislatures, Congress has not yet passed any legislation related to Artificial Intelligence( AI) in the workplace, but there are some relevant bills to track: The Technology Workforce Framework Act of 2024( 3792), the Workforce DATA Act( 2138), The No Robot Bosses Act( 2419), the Stop Spying Bosses Act( 262) and the Algorithmic Accountability Act( 2892). According to Law. com, this last one seeks to supervise how companies use Artificial Intelligence( AI) to make important decisions, including those that significantly affect an individual’ s employment. In sum, there is still a lack of legislation directly intended to protect workers, letting employers do unfair practices.
Nevertheless, there are positive aspects to highlight. Artificial Intelligence( AI) is significantly transforming many areas of our daily lives, from its use in healthcare and environmental sustainability to education, financial planning and governance. Although in the workplace the impact is still very uncertain, it is important to recognize labor productivity growth in the US during the last years. According to a McKinsey Global Institute study,“ It has the potential to increase labor productivity by 0.5 to 0.9 percentage points annually through 2030 in a midpoint adoption scenario”. It means to produce more goods and services with the same amount of labor input, steering economic growth for our country. Despite this, laws are required to rule the development of Artificial Intelligence( AI) to reduce the negative impact on American workers without blocking technological innovation. Otherwise, there will be poverty and inequality not compensated that would be more expensive for the US.
Companies are predicting widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence( AI) over the next few years. It is a fact that this is gaining momentum. However, appropriate legislation must be adopted at the same time. Experts say that almost 30 percent of the working hours could be automated in the short term as well as many routine positions could be eliminated impacting minorities. The most reliable and strongest solution to minimize this effect is now on policymakers which have the important task to create laws that ensure the workers’ rights, safety and stability but at the same time allow Artificial Intelligence( AI) continuity. We cannot ignore this situation, even if you are not part of any vulnerable group. Therefore, it is important to acquire digital learning and develop our technological skills by taking affordable programs or exploring careers or jobs where there is a growing need may be another strategy. In any case, there is no doubt that we must be prepared to cope with the imminent changes.
