LEONARD EOUSSA GED IN ENGLISH EXCERPTS FROM MY GED EXPERIENCE January 23, 2017 was THE DAY. Walk- ing into Sonia Gutier- rez Campus reminded me of my childhood in Manoka where I grew up and attended prima- ry school. When I came in, I thought I was going to be the oldest student on campus but I quick- ly changed my mind when I met other older students in the building. From that instant, I knew I was not alone and that I could do it. Once in the class- room, I met my inspiring and dedicated teacher, Chantal, who really in- troduced me to Carlos Rosario. She trained me to read as fast as I could. She taught me how to connect the plot arc to the story and gave me supporting docu- ments and tools that the school makes available to the students. Follow- ing her advice and mak- ing use of the materials she gave me, I found myself, after 2 months of classes, immersed in American History, Civ- ics and Government, and everything I needed to be ready to take the GED for Social Studies and Language Arts. I do remember one day she said to me, “You have it in you already, I’m just hoping you bring it out.” Five months later, I moved to GED 300. There, Brad was waiting for me. And I have to say, he did pretty well. He organized the class in such a way that it was easy for everyone to fo- cus. He worked with the group but followed us individually. On school days, he was always available to respond to student requests. One night, I was working on Mathspace at home at 11pm and I had a prob- lem. I emailed Brad and within 5 minutes he re- plied to my email with directions to solve it. Both Chantal and Brad gave me the key to my success. 39
