Recycling
by Andrea Lopez
M
y daughter and I decided to recycle
waste. It was Saturday,
November 24, a beautiful sunny day. Here is
what happened. I was just
finishing cleaning the house when my daughter Lourdes
asked me a question. “Mom
what does recycle mean?....” So I thought for about 2 minutes
how I could respond and I
thought to myself I didn’t have any idea what it was. I answered her “Good question, sweetheart”.
Later on, I found information about recycling waste in the internet.
I explained to her why it’s important to recycle and how she can do it. First, I
showed her how to separate old newspapers, plastic containers and glass jars.
Next, she helped me to put them in special containers. When we were almost
done I said to her, “Now do you know what recycle means?” She answered
very happily, “Yes, mom now I know it..”
Then, in the afternoon she went to play with her best friend at the park.
She talked with Tatiana, her best friend, about what she learned about recycling.
Tatiana proudly answered, “I agree to help my Mom with it too.” When I heard that
I felt very happy about my efforts to help them improve recycling waste.
