I t’s a simple assumption - ‘hey, we’re all surfers, aren’t we meant to be a little different, a little better than those suits?’. Apparently not. It used to be the case, you’d walk into an office or boardroom and learn that old mate hits the waves just like you, and there’d be an instant association, an unwritten portion of respect or a nod of mutual connection - an understanding that it was us, and them. For our family, friends and fans that have wondered where we’ve been, all we can say is that some of those that were supposed to be a part of ‘us’, really turned out to be ‘them’ in disguise. Kooks come in many forms and wear all kinds of colours, but when armed with questionable agendas, a propensity for financial acquisition and an internet connection, they suddenly become dangerous. We started this ambitious journey nearly three years ago and after all of this time, the successes and losses, the valleys and summits, we launched issue one late last year. You loved it, everyone did, except the ambulance chasers, and they came at us below the belt. ‘Give us money’ they said, ‘we want what’s yours’ they claimed, and issued their demands. So just where have we been? We’ve been tucked away redesigning, rebuilding and relaunching this magazine into the wicked beast you’re about to read. The relaunch meant doubling everything about the magazine and with issue two, we’re affirming our commitment to making it just the sickest thing to ever come out in, and for, this crazy town. This journey is just beginning, and it’s a pure labour of love. It’s a heart on a sleeve, it’s brothers and mates. It’s our city, our coast and our ocean as you’ve never seen it - the stories, the images, the culture and style, the passion and the filthy pits that make this the best surfing strip on the planet. We can’t be snaked and simply told to ‘hand it all over’, that’s not how this works. Thank you for the thousands of people who have continued their support, connection and their friendship towards us and this project - this is all for you! Luke Sorensen | Editor
